Countdown to ICME 2027
ICME Overview
The International Conference on Medical Education (ICME) is a flagship initiative of Riphah International University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Established in 2009, the conference was created to foster scholarly dialogue and collaboration among experts in Health Professions Education (HPE) from around the world.
Held biennially, ICME has convened at prestigious international venues across the globe, alongside a national edition hosted in Islamabad. Its previous destinations and editions include Abu Dhabi (2010), Mauritius (2013), Istanbul (2015), Abu Dhabi (2018), in a joint conference with the Ottawa community, Islamabad (2019), Yogyakarta (2021), Baku (2023), and Kuala Lumpur (2025), where ICME was held jointly with the International Medical Education Conference (IMEC). The most recent edition, Boutique ICME 2026, was held on 26–27 October 2026 in Malé, Maldives, jointly organized by Riphah International University, Pakistan, and The Maldives National University (MNU).
Building on this distinguished legacy of international academic collaboration, ICME 2027 will be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain in collaboration with Arabian Gulf University (AGU). The Bahrain edition will continue ICME’s enduring mission of advancing health professions education through scholarly exchange, innovation, leadership and international partnership.
